Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints

Well the 54th Superbowl is getting closer and we're In the midst of the NFL Playoffs.  In addition, so is Mardi Gras in New Orleans.  One of the biggest celebration for Mississippians was when the closest home NFL team, the New Orleans Saints, won the Superbowl in 2010.  Not only did the team as a whole prove that they could overcome enormous adversity, it proved the resilience and athletic spirit of Quarterback Drew Brees.  People recall how totally forgettable the 2005-2006 season was for the New Orleans Saints as they went 3-13.  Not long before the season began, Hurricane Katrina had damaged the Superdome and the destruction of the Saints' home city had seemingly further dampened the spirits of any future success for the team.  Drew Brees had hit free agency at the time.  However, he was considered to be at the end of his football career by some as he had just suffered a serious shoulder injury.  The New Orleans Saints, however, showed confidence in him.  Since Brees and the then broken team got together in March 2006, they have become perennial candidates.  Combined with head coach Sean Payton's offense, Drew Brees helped raise the band's legacy back from the dead and led them to the aforementioned Superbowl win in 2010.  It is important to also note that upon signing with the Saints in 2006, the Brees Dream Foundation rebuilding various city facilities in New Orleans proving Drew Brees' commitment to charity and the city as a whole.  Drew Brees overcame the odds of an injury that threatened to end his career.  The New Orleans Saints overcame the odds as a team that had been previously written off by many.  You could also say that the city of New Orleans overcame the odds of the costliest storm in US history.  WHODAT!!!
